1.1AntennaPlacement
Theantennashouldalwaysbeinstalledinapositionwhereithasaclearviewofthesatellitesinthesky.When
surveyingasitepriortoinstallation,consideranyfixedormovingobstructionswhichmayaffectGNSSreception
(E.g.Terrain,Pylons,mobileobstructions…).Avoidcloseproximitytoantennasfromotherserviceswherepossible.
Theantennahasexcellentrejectioncharacteristicstoout-of-bandsignals,asdoestheGNSSreceiver,buthigh-
poweredRFsignalsincloseproximitytotheantennamayswamptheverylow-levelsignalsfromtheGNSS
satellites.
1.2Reducingtheriskoflightningstrike
Thefirstlineofprotectionagainsttheeffectsoflightning-inducedsurgeevents
involvespositioningtheantennaina“lightning-protectedzone”.Inpractice,this
meansensuringthatthereisatleastoneotherearth-bondedstructurelocatedin
thesamerooftoparea(e.g.anotherantenna,oralightningrod)thatreaches
significantlyhigherthanthetopoftheGNSSantenna.TheGNSSAntennashould
thenbemountedsothatitlieswithina45-degreeanglefromthetopoftheother
earth-bondedstructure.TheGNSSantennamountitselfshouldalsobesecurely
bondeddirectlytothebuildingprotectionearth–andnotconnectedviaanyofthe
otherearthedstructures.Byfollowingthedirectionsaboveyouwillreducetherisk
oflightningstrike.However,thereisnofail-safewayofpreventinglightningstrike.
