Thefindingsarebasedonanalysisofdatafrom13,769subjects,between20and79yearsofage,whoparticipatedintheThirdNationalHealthandNutritionExaminationSurveyfrom1988to1994.
Overall,82percentofadultshadariskoflessthan10percent,15percenthadariskthatfellbetween10to20percent,and3percenthadariskabove20percent.
Theproportionofsubjectsinthehighestriskgroupincreasedwithadvancingage,andmenweremorelikelythanwomentobeinthisgroup.2Bycontrast3,raceorethnicityhadlittleeffectonriskdistributions.
