InthefirstdiaryentryonOctober31,1914,a19-year-oldboysawanadforanAntarctictripledbySirErnestShackleton.Hewasveryexcitedbecauseitwashisdreamadventure.ButShackletonsaidnotohim,thinkinghewastooyoungandnotexperiencedenough.Notwillingtogiveup,theboysecretlygotontheship,Endurance,andhid.Foundthreedayslater,hebecameasteward,serving28menthreemealsaday.Hecouldntwaittosharehisfuturestorieswithothers.
