Therewasnoonetheretostopme.Iwouldmope(消沉)inthebackofthoselectures,readinganovelbehindmynotebook,unawareofthefactthatIwastryingtotellmyselfsomething.Idon’tknowexactlywhenthingswentwrongwithmychosencourseofstudy.BythetimeIrealizedthatIshouldhavebeenanEnglishmajor,itwastoolatetomaketheswitch.Iendedupworkinginatinynonprofitthatmeantnothingtome,withnoideawhereIshouldgonext.
AndthenIhappenedtobevisitingafriendinarchitectureschool.Shewasn’thappy,either;herprogramwaswaytoopretentiousandtheoretical.Wewerewalkingalongandshesaid,“Ihavetogetoutofgraduateschool.”AndIimmediatelythought“Ihavetogotograduateschool.”Meaning,I’llneverbehappyuntilIgivemyselfthechancetostudyEnglishliteratureafterall.Meaning,it’snottoolate-I’mnotgoingtoletitbetoolate.Everythingwassuddenlyclearandcalm.
Itwasn’teasygettinginatthatpoint.Butforthefirsttimeinalongwhile,Iperformedatthetopofmyability.I’dstudyforeightyhoursaweekandIhadneverbeenhappier.
