Overtheyears,I’veenjoyedhearingthebackstoriesofothers’treasuredobjectsaswell.AsIrecordedthespokenhistoryofonefriend,shetracedthestoryofgrandma’srollingpinthroughherfamilytree.Therollingpinstartedasaweddinggiftmanygenerationsago.Lovinglypasseddown,alongwithatraditionofpiemakingandbiscuitrolling,ittouchestheheartstringsofallinthefamily.Itisn’tjustapieceofhardwood:itisthememoriesofjoyfultimescelebratedandheartbreaksshared.Italsowitnessesfuturehopesaslittlehandsarecoachedonhowtorolloutpastryevenlyandasnewgrandchildrenarebouncedonkneesoverapieceofafter-dinnerpie.
