1.Scope.Thisstandardcoversmaterialsandperformancerequirementsapplicabletobothmetricand

customarysizesoftypesAB,B,BF,andBTandtocustomarysizesonlyoftypesAandBPcasehardened

carbonsteeltappingscrewsasusedintheautomotiveandrelatedindustries.Itisapplicablealsotosems

employingtherespectivetypesoftappingscrews.Thestandardemployingtherespectivetypesoftapping

screw.Thestandarddoesnotapplytocorrosionresistant(stainless)steelexceptfortappingscrews

fabricatedfromSAE51410which,whensuitablyprocessed,havebeenfoundtosatisfytheperformance

requirementsofthisspecification.

1.范围.该标准包含了公制和常规系列AB,B,BF,andBT型,及A,BP型表面渗碳钢自攻钉(用于汽车

Caution:casehardenedfastenersmaybesubjecttodelayedbrittlefracturecausedbyhydrogenresulting

fromcorrosion.Smallamountsofwatersuchasmightcondensefromhumidaircancausethistypeof

failure,particularlyinthepresenceofanodicsurfacecoatingssuchaszincorcadmiumplate.consequently,

itisrecommendedthatcasehardenedfastenersnotbeusedinstructuralapplications.
