Fifteen-year-oldMitchellHolmes,fromSouthampton,didnotpanicwhenhisdadsuddenlyfelldownbecauseofaheartattack.Instead,rememberingthetraininghehadreceived,theyoungmanimmediatelystartedtogivehisstrickenfathercardiopulmonaryresuscitation(CPR)(心肺复苏)treatment,whichhelpedtokeephimaliveuntiltheambulancearrived.
Mitchellsaid,“WhenIsawwhatwashappening,instincttookover.SinceI’dtakentwoRedCrossfirstaidcourses,Iknewwhattodo.IgavemydadCPRtreatmentuntiltheambulancearrivedandtheparamedics(护理人员)tookover.TheysaiditmusthavebeenadifficultthingbutIdidn’tfeelscaredatthetime—IjustknewwhatIhadtodo.”
Followingtheyounghero’sswiftaction,hisfatherJeffrey(48)hadaheartoperationandhassincemadeafullrecovery.
Recognizinghisbravery,ateacheratMitchell’sschoolnominatedhimtoattendtheceremonyoftheBritishRedCross’HumanitarianCitizenAwards,whichwilltakeplaceinLondononNovember17.
Theannualawardshonourtheactionsofyoungpeopleaged25andunderwhohavemadeadifferencetosomeone’slifeortheircommunities.
