Herfather,achef,tookhertothekitchen.Hefilledthreepotswithwaterandplacedeachonahighfire.Oncethethreepotsbegantoboil，heplacedpotatoes,eggsandcoffeebeansinthem.After20minutes,hetookthemout,puttingthepotatoesandeggsinabowlandthecoffeeinacup.

Turningtohisdaughter,hesaid,“Lookcloser,andtouchthepotatoes.”Shedidandnotedthattheyweresoft.Hethenaskedhertotakeaneggandbreakit.Afterstrippingofftheshell,sheobservedthehardboiledegg.Finally,heaskedhertotastethecoffee.Itsgoodsmellbroughtasmiletoherface.

“Father.whatdoesthismean?”sheasked.Hethenexplainedthatthepotatoes,theeggsandthecoffeebeanswereinthesameadversity—theboilingwater.However,eachonereacteddifferently.

Thestrongandhardpotatoesbecamesoftandweakintheboilingwater.Theeggswerefragile,withthinoutershellprotectingtheirliquiduntiltheywereputintheboilingwater.Thentheinsideoftheeggsbecamehard.However,thecoffeebeanswereunique.Aftertheywereexposedtotheboilingwater,theychangedthewaterandcreatedsomethingnew.“Whichonedoyouwanttobelike?”heasked.“Whenadversityknocksonyourdoor,howwillyourespond?”
