Dr.Lopezsuggeststhattheerearethreelevelsoffitness,atwhichpeopleneedachangeoflifestyle“Overweight”meansthatapersongetsverylittleexerciseandoftenhasaseriousweightproblem.“Inactive”meansthatapersondoesnotjoininmanyphysicalactivities,butisnotseriouslyoverweight.“Active”referstopeoplewhotakepartinsportsandotherphysicalactivities,butdonothaveahighfitnesslevel.

AccordingtoDr.Lopez,overweightteenagersshouldkeepactivetokeephealthy.“Rideabike,playvolleyballorbasketballforawhile,andgoforatwenty-minutewalkeachday.Allthesecanhelptoburnoffcalories.”Inactiveteenagersshoulddosimilaractivities,butshouldaddsomebendingandstretchingexercises,suchaspush-upsandsit-ups,startingwithtwentyofeachaday.“Inactivepeoplecantakealittlemoreexercisethanoverweightpeoplebecausetheirbodiesarestronger,”saidDr.Lopez.Thesameprincipleappliestoactiveteenagers.

Dr.Lopezsuggestsspendingonehouraweekormoreinrunninganddoingotherformsofintensiveexercise,togetherwithfifteenminutesadayspentonstretchingandbendingactivities.“Thelesearereallyimportantinordertopreventinjuries,”saidDr.Lopez.Someweighttrainingandotherbody-strengtheningexercisescouldalsobeplannedintheprogrammeinordertobuildupone’sstrength.
