TheRoundTable,alegendaryassemblyofknights,wasthebrainchildofKingArthur,akingwhosoughttounitethewarringtribesofBritainunderonebannerofpeaceandjustice.TheconceptoftheRoundTablewasrevolutionaryinitstime,asitsymbolizedequalityandfairnessamongitsmembers,regardlessoftheirbirthorrank.
Thetalebeginsinthe5thcentury,duringthereignofUtherPendragon,thefatherofKingArthur.Uther,apowerfulandcharismaticking,hadasecretloveaffairwithIgraine,thewifeofGorlois,theDukeofCornwall.Throughamagicalenchantment,UtherwasabletofatherasonwithIgraine,whohenamedArthur.However,thechildwasraisedbySirEctor,aloyalknight,whowasunawareofhistruelineage.
Yearspassed,andyoungArthurgrewintoatall,strong,andbraveyoungman.Oneday,ashewasoutwalkingwithhisfosterbrother,Kay,theycameuponagreatstonetableintheforest.Thetablewassaidtobeenchanted,andthepersonwhocouldpullitfromthegroundwouldbethetrueheirtothethroneofBritain.Withgreateffort,Arthurpulledthetablefromtheearth,provinghimselftobethesonofUtherPendragonandthustherightfulking.
Uponascendingthethrone,ArthursetouttocreatetheRoundTable,asymbolofunityandequalityamonghisknights.Heinvitedthebravestandmostnobleknightsfromacrossthelandtojoinhiscause.AmongthemwereSirLancelot,SirGawain,SirPercival,SirGalahad,andSirTristan,eachwiththeirownuniquetalesofbraveryandhonor.
