背景知识故宫位于北京时的中心，又名紫禁城，是明清两代的皇宫。故宫始建于明朝永乐年间。据介绍，紫禁城南边长961米，东西宽753米，占地面积78万平方米。故宫共有房屋8700间，每道门上的铜钉是横竖9颗。因为在中国古代，人们认为“9”与“久”谐音，即“永久”，寓意皇帝的江山可以天长地久。故宫分为两大部分。南部为外朝，是处理朝政的地方。外朝包括太和殿、中和殿和保和殿。太和殿是举行盛大典礼的地方，太和殿有一个门前广场。过了太和殿就是中和殿。中和殿是皇帝临朝前的预备室。保和殿的建筑与太和殿类似，只是规模小一点。保和殿是皇帝举行大宴和殿试的场所。
