Abstract:Targetingattheproblemthatthetraditionaleddycurrenttestingmethodsaredifficulttodetectthehiddenfiberfracturede ̄
fectsincarbonfiberreinforcedpolymer(CFRP)materials?aneweddycurrentprobeisdesigned.Theprobeconsistsoftwohorizontally
placedrectangulardrivingcoilsandacircularpickupcoil.Thedifferentialdrivecanpre ̄filteroutpartofthenoise.Inaddition?thehor ̄
izontallyplacedrectangularcoilproducesamoreuniformeddycurrentwithbetterpenetrationintheverticaldirection?whichismorefa ̄
vorableforthedetectionofCFRPmaterialswithlaminatedstructures.Basedontheconstructionofathree ̄dimensionalfiniteelement
model?thechangesofeddycurrentpathsinCFRPmaterialswithdifferentlayupdirectionsareanalyzed?thesensitivityofdifferent
probesiscompared?andthechangesoftheinducedvoltageoftheprobesareanalyzedwhenthefiberbreaksarelocatedindifferentlay ̄
