(2025北京通州高三一模)Timeisn’tnearlyasunchangeableasitfirstseems.Askanyscientistsandthey’lllikelyentertainyouwithincredibledescriptionsofagravity’seffectonspace-time(i.e.themoremassiveanobjectis,theslowertimeappearstotravelaroundit).Somescientistsevenwonderifentirezonesoftheuniverseexperiencetimeatdifferentrates.However,theperceptionofthespeedatwhichtimepassescanalsovarywithinourminds.SteveTaylor,apsychologistatLeedsBeckettUniversity,isexploringthisfieldinanewbookcalledTimeExpansionExperiences.

Taylor’sinterestinthesealteredtemporal(时间的)moments—whichhecalls“timeexpansionexperiences,”orTEEs—beganwhenheandhiswifewereinvolvedinacarcrashbackin2014.“Everythingwentintoslowmotion”,Taylordescribes.“IfeltasthoughIhadalotoftimetoobservethewholesceneandtotrytoregaincontrolofthecar.IwassurprisedbyhowmuchdetailIcouldperceive.”

Inthefollowingdecade,Taylorbeganinvestigatinghowandwhythesemomentsofultra-slownessappear.Heanalyzed96instancesasTEEsandfoundthatroughlyhalfofthemoccurredduringaccidents,whileotherstookplaceduringsportingeventsorinmeditation(冥想)。

Inanewarticle,Taylorexplainedhowsomeoftheleadingtheoriesbehindthesetimealteringstatesdon’tquitegrasptheentirerangeoftheexperiences.Onetheorybelievesthesemomentsaretheresultofthereleaseofnoradrenaline—basicallythebody’semergencyresponse—butthisdoesn’texplainthementaltimeexpansionofpeopleduringmomentsofintensemeditationorconcentration.

“AnothertheoryisthatTEEsaren’trealexperiences,butillusions(幻觉)ofmemory.Inemergencysituations,ourawarenessbecomessharp,sothatwetakeinmoreperceptionsthannormal,”Taylorwrote.“Theseperceptionsbecomeencodedinourmemories,sothatwhenwerecalltheemergencysituatio
